Marshall’s Pet Food Store is a family-owned business that has been serving our community for 34 years in Burghfield Common, Berkshire, and for the past five years in Broadstone, Dorset. We love being a local store, offering specialist knowledge, dedicated service, and a strong connection with our customers and their pets.
When we first heard about National Pet Shop Day, we were absolutely thrilled. It was an amazing opportunity to shout about what makes independent pet shops so special and to celebrate the role we play in pet care and wellbeing. Having a dedicated day to highlight our industry felt like a fantastic way to connect with our community and showcase what we do best.
How We Celebrated
To mark the occasion, we put together a fun and welcoming event for our customers. We had dog cakes, human cakes, and flapjacks available at the counter, ensuring that everyone – pets and people alike – could enjoy a little treat. One of the highlights of the day was welcoming our oldest customer, both in age and in duration of loyalty to our store, which made the event even more special for us.
The response from our customers was fantastic. Everyone loves cake, and the sense of community on the day was incredible. We saw so many familiar faces and new visitors who were excited to celebrate with us. It was a brilliant reminder of how much our store means to the people (and pets!) we serve.
Our Plans for 2025
Without a doubt, we’ll be getting involved in National Pet Shop Day 2025—and we plan to go even bigger! This year, we want to increase publicity in the lead-up to the event and come up with even more ways to make the day special for our customers. We’re committed to making it an even greater success and can’t wait to start planning.
Final Thoughts
For us, National Pet Shop Day was a truly wonderful experience. In what has been a particularly tough year, it was incredibly uplifting to take part in something so positive. We’re really grateful for the support and think that strong social media promotion could help make the day even more impactful in the future. We can’t wait to do it all again!
