A day to celebrate independent pet shops and stores
For over 100 years, Johnson's has supported the nation's independent pet trade.
Because we know what these shops mean. To their customers. To their communities. To the pets they care for every day.
We say we value our local pet shops. We say they are important to our communities. We say we would miss them if they disappeared. And the research proves it. Two thirds of pet owners say independent pet shops matter. More than half say they would be upset if theirs closed. More than half would even pay a little more to support one.
But our shopping habits tell a different story.
Only one in eight pet owners names an independent as their main source of pet products. Nearly one in five never visits their local pet shop in a typical month. Convenience wins. Routine wins. The weekly big-shop at the supermarket wins.
National Pet Shop Day exists to close that gap.
Taking place on Saturday 11th July 2026, National Pet Shop Day is a national moment to stop, rethink, and choose differently. Because independent pet shops offer something that no supermarket shelf or search engine can replicate: real people, real knowledge, and a genuine investment in the health and happiness of your pet.
The love for local is already there. National Pet Shop Day is the reminder to act on it.
Because if we value our local pet shops, we need to use them. Once they are gone, they are unlikely to return.
